I was at the store today and I felt something tugging on my shirt and I turned around to find a little girl, probably 5 or 6, looking up at me. I knelt down and asked her if everything was okay and in the softest voice she said “I think your shirt is very pretty” and I smiled and said thank you and told her I liked hers too. Her mom turned the corner and picked her up and told her that she’d been looking everywhere for her. Pointing at me, the little girl said “Mommy I want to have a shirt like hers!” and her mom looked me up and down and said “Sweetheart, girls can’t wear boy clothes if they want to be a princess.” Then she put the little girl back in the cart and walked away and I was standing there thinking that this poor kids life is already so tainted by her mothers words. Don’t tell a queen that she will only ever be as good as a princess.
